My 13 yr old daughter & I went to this to see the Disney/Pixar exhibition. Entry fee was reasonable (can't remember exactly how much it was, but well worth it). The whole thing was brilliant. Just go & see it if in Melb.

This was entertaining and totally unexpected. A real nostalgia trip for someone who loves their movies - and all free!

The exhibitions are really great and cover many aspects of the moving image. We were a little time pressed, and so did not go into the longer paid presentations within the theatre spaces, but I imagine them to be equally as good as what we saw in the many areas on public display. Really good.

Great experience for kids and adults with exhibitions about aussie film, tv and a new video games exhibition. Well worth the visit.

This is a great place to go right in Federation Square in Melbourne. Very easy to get to and lots to see, do and experience in the free area including old gaming formats you can actually play (even Pong!). You can see how film and TV developed, lots of history and early old films, plus classic footage of old Australian TV and movies, bringing back great memories of childhood favourites. And don't miss the zoetrope in the 'sensation' area - just brilliant! You can even make your own 'flip book' (though you have to then purchase it at the gift shop, not sure how much they were). ACMI also have some paid attractions like films and special exhibitions but we didn't go to any of these.

This place was amazing. I learned a lot about Australian film history and ended up spending a few hours wondering around. I really liked being able to play some of the older gaming systems. I would suggest this to anyone visiting Melbourne.

If you're visiting Melbourne, ACMI should definitely be on your to-do list. No matter when you visit, there is always something interesting to behold. Often showing free exhibitions, ACMI's schedule is chock-full of both famous and more obscure artists and their creations. The free permanent exhibition on the history of TV and film is, alone, enough to keep us coming back, with lots of interactive play. The downstairs exhibition space often houses fascinating video art. Keep an eye on their film schedule as well, as you can often see once-off screenings of art house films and children's films.Even if you don't consider yourself a film or TV "buff", you're sure to find something to pique your interest.

Great free thing to do in an otherwise pricey city! A lot to see, and very interesting particularly if you're a film or TV buff! And it's near the heart of the city to easy to get to!

Came across this place by chance when visiting federation square. My husband was fascinated with the history of film and TV and could have spent a half day easily here time permitting.great place for all the family to visit as very educational.

Was there in July 2014 for the special exhibition, and returned with family in 2015, and enjoyed free exhibitions. Informative and interesting place to spend some time in. Half a day at least!
