Visited the National Rhodedendrum Gardens, they were not in bloom but still plenty to see, a lovely garden to walk around. We came out and had an excellent lunch at the Olinda cafe.

My children loved the train ride to the top and back. We drove to the Dandenong train station from the city centre and it was quite easy to find. The afternoon can best be described as a "lazy one." The children had a lot of fun.

If you're going to head out this way. Take a car. It's not easy to get there without it. Although the belgrave line takes you out there, it's better to take a car, because then you can meander through the hills, stop off at a winery (there are loads), and find somewhere nice to stay. Lovely outlooks, and on a clear day you may even be able to see out to the sea.

A great drive through virgin forest & quaint villages. We visited with misty weather which only added to the atmosphere

I really liked the Dandenong Ranges, I just wish there was better transport around them. I've been hiking there a couple of times now and have both times set off from Belgrave. Good for keen hikers, but perhaps difficult for people like me going by train.

It has a beautiful view and plenty spaces for picnic if the weather allows. Some picnic sites have crowds of birds and if your children are not afraid of them they would have great fun. Just be careful as the birds are sometimes aggressive for food. The range has a good combination of walk path from 20 mins to 3 hours. Good place to go for a relaxed weekend.

The Dandenong ranges is a good tourist attraction with a great cafe and good view of Melbourne cbd from a distance. Have to go along with $1 coins to be able to use the telescope. I went to there to catch the sunset but unfortunately it was cloudy and the sun was hiding behind the clouds. But never the less I had good views of Melbourne.

Take a day trip up from Melbourne to the Dandenong ranges. Such a beautiful area and great shopping and coffee and cakes and fresh food in all the great little villages.

plenty of parking, See the lights of melbourne, take the various walks, and the food is not expensive.

A great venue for exercise, and pump some clean air into your lungs. Ride a bicycle from The Basin up the "1 in 20" climb then stop for a coffee at the lookout at the top of the hill. If you like walking then the 1000 steps is a great walk for all of the family
