Ciudad Alfaro, located in the heights of the Montecristi Hill. From this strategic vantage point you can view the village below and the nearby port of Manta. The beautiful facility contains four main components: National Constitutional Assembly & event hall, historical museum, the mausoleo for General Eloy Alfaro, and an artisanal exhibition and market. The museum pays tribute to the construction and operation of the railway lines, with a restored narrow gauge steam engine and historic tools and equipment, and has the national collection of legal seals and stamps. It provides an overview of Ecuador's History, changing exhibitions, and an active legislative assembly.Montecristi is said to have formed during the early years of the Spanish conquest, possibly between 1536 and 1537, with settlers who left their coastal village of Manta fleeing from pirates. It is the birthplace of General Eloy Alfaro Delgado ( 1842 - 1912 ) , one of the biggest revolutionaries in the country. During his time as President of Ecuador he built the railway lines from the coast to the Andes. His home in the central area ( now a museum ) has been restored and can be visited, and his remains are in the Mausoleo.Admission is free.

This beautiful building sits high on a hill overlooking Montecristi. Admission is free and gives the visitor a very good explanation of the history of Ecaudor. If you do not speak/understand Spanish, I guide is very recommended as many of the signs are not translated. This is also the place where Ecaudor's Constitution was rewritten. Next door is the mausoleum where President Elfaro's ashes rest. A magnificent tribute built in his memory.

Para entender un poco la historia del pa¨ªs y lo que represent¨® Eloy Alfaro para los ecuatorianos deben visitar este lugar pintoresco con una linda vista de Montecristi, Manta y parte del centro de Manab¨ª; adem¨¢s que se puede comprar recuerdos, dulces, y picadas aut¨®ctonas de la zona ..... tambi¨¦n se debe visitar el pintoresco pueblo de Montecristi en el cual hay muchas artesan¨ªas y los famosos sombreros de Panam¨¢ que realmente son originarios de Ecuador...

El lugar es sobrecogedor a momentos, especialmente para los ecuatorianos que admiramos y valoramos lo que represent¨® Eloy Alfaro en nuestra historia.

Al estar en San Clemente, es muy f¨¢cil conocer m¨¢s la provincia de Manab¨ª y sus sitios tur¨ªsticos! Nosotros vistiamos Montecristi, y la Ciudad Alfaro, compramos los t¨ªpicos sombreros de paja toquilla a buen precio... Venden unos dulces t¨ªpicos muy ricos y adem¨¢s el caf¨¦ manabita.. delicioso y arom¨¢tico..Otro d¨ªa fuimos a Manta, es una ciudad moderna y cuenta con muchos servicios, comimos en el mall, y paseamos... y en las noches visitamos Bah¨ªa de Caraquez donde hay variedad de restaurantes t¨ªpicos... por ejemplo saboreamos pinchos, hamburguesas, pizza!.. etc...

Durante mi estadia en Manta, visite el Museo Ciudad Alfaro. Me sorprendio la calidad de las carreteras ecuatorianas y esta no fue la excepcion. El lugar es lindo para sacar fotos y aprender sobre la historia del Ecuador.
