lots of churches and old building was very nice and most areas felt safe it was just one or two areas that probably best not to walk around especially at night, we had no problems taking photos at this beautiful city though. and at night it is very beautiful with the churches lit up.

I liked the facades that have been restored, the amazing churches packed with gold, and the squares. We stayed in two bijou hotels that were great: El Relicario del Carmen and the Casona de la Ronda. The only downside of Quito old town is the exhaust from the buses which is filthy.

Quaint old town but very small and nothing worth mentioning. Many churches to visit , but a difficult city to walk in due to the altitude and hilly terrain.

There are many churches, galleries , museums, restaurants in the old town that are interesting and worth a visit. We took the red bus tour on the day we arrived to orientate ourselves.

We just returned from our trip to Ecuador and it was fantastic. We traveled with Gate 1 Travel and the trip was not just a vacation but quite the experience!!!! We would never have gotten to do many of the things or went to the places we did if we were not on this tour!!!! It was just awesome!! We had a group of six family members and we all felt it was the best vacation yet!!!! Kudos to Gate 1 Travel. We will be booking a trip with you again!!! Mike and Nancy Aldinger

The best museums are within walking distance of each other. Our favourites were: Museo de la Ciudad and Casa del Alabado.

Our only regret regarding Old Town was that we did not arrange for our accommodation to be in the district! What an architectural treasure. It is not to be missed. We spend a lot of time in Independence Plaza interacting with the wonderful Ecuadoran people who were eager to interact with us. Friendly, gracious and willing to help at anytime.

While visiting the capital of Ecuador you must also visit he old town, architecture will wake your senses as well as the native people earning a living.

For a glimpse into the real Quito and the real Ecuador, a visit to this section of the city is absolutely necessary. While the main plazas and government buildings are absolutely beautiful and the churches over the top with their golden interiors and vibrant congregations, it is the strolls down the side streets that are most enlightening. Our guide took us off the beaten track, and I am so happy that he did. We saw the small shops, the street people, the indigenous peoples selling everything imaginable for just a few cents or dollars and the real people of Quito going about their daily business. Oh yes, we all heard about the pickpockets operating there, but with the same attention to belongings that one needs to use in any large US city, don't hesitate to stray onto the smaller streets of Old Town with your eyes and your mind open. You will be changed forever as a result.
