The St Isaac Cathedral is bold, impressive building and one of the largest cathedrals in the world. It faces a park on one side where it's best to take your photos from. The cathedral contains some lovely mosaics. If you time your visit right, you can go up to the colonnade for a great view of St Petersburg. The entry price was reasonable although there are quite a few souvenir sellers there but don't let that put you off.Not at the top of my 'must-see' list in St Pete, but worth a look if you are in the area. and have time.Visited February 2013

Central St. Petersburg - easy to access. Small entry charge. Great place. Full of history. Lovely vendors inside the cathedral with stuff you'll want to buy. Yet another Leningrad essential.

Breathtaking monumental cathedral with unique mosaics. Tickets include free tours with knowledgeable guides. Great panoramic view from colonnade accompanied by recorded tour.

The 1st time I visited here I was amazed. This time it all seemed different. A church is defined as a house of prayer, a place of worship, a house of God. This time it seemed to me as a Pantheon to what money can buy, artists can achieve and architects design - and how 60 spray painters can die spraying the dome with gold. Now I am no way religious, but this building that took 40 years to complete, and as many Tripadvisors comment - is a selling place for Souvenirs. It may be the largest Russian Orthodox cathedral in the world and the 4th largest Cathedral world wide - but to me it just looks like a big lump of art - not something built with loving hands for people to "love their neighbor." Ask the Russian neighbors of Ukraine. They seem to be missing the point somehow. But since Russia were last to free their Surfs,I guess it is going to take some time. Unfortunately.Brian, from Perth. W. Australia.

Preparing for the trip listened to Localoud mobile guide about the cathedral and decided to go. Impressive masterpiece. However, not so Russian-authentic as Savior on the Spilled Blood or Kazansky cathedral. Atmosphere of a church vanished somewhen and now it is more a museum rather than a spiritual place. However, it is grandiose.

St Petersburg is full of amazingly beautiful churches and cathedrals but I'd definitely visit St Issacs. You get a great view around the city from up top. It also had an interesting history.

Nowhere near as impressive as other churches we visited in St Petersburg. It's very dark and not really that much to see.
