The remains of the once mighty ancient town Heraclea Pontica can be seen now in this pleasant little museum. The collection is housed on two storeys in a lovely historical mansion downtown Eregli, near the Black Sea promenade. Besides the inevitable ethnographic part, there is an impressive archaeological display, with a focus on the amphora trade of Heraclea. The courtayrd offers a good collection of exquisite Roman marbles and some interesting funerary inscriptions. The description labels are quite informative, especially in comparison to similar small museums throughout Turkey.
