A very large sprawling castle, great views of the sea and nearby islands. quite a long walk out to the small lighthouse (castle) via a causeway, well worth the walk.

Methoni Castle is for me one of the most exciting castles to visit. It's a real pity that it is not maintained as well as it should be - it's a treasure that should be looked after. Don't miss visiting it. Go in the morning before it gets too hot. No entrance fee. Unfortunately they lock the entrance gate at 3 so that's another reason to go early. It's a shame they do that because the sunset from there is amazing. The area is quite large so there is quite a bit of walking to do but definitely worth it. Don't miss going to the far end where the 'Bourgi' is, out on the water. Read about it before going then you will have more of a feel of where you are!

Interesting place to visit. Bigger than we thought, interesting, inside is also a nice church. Well worth a visit.

M?chtige Festung in Methoni. Gro?es Bauwerk mit toller Geschichte. Zuerst Besichtigung - denn leider schon ab 15.00 Uhr geschlossen - und dann in der sch?nen Bucht am dunklen aber feinen Strand noch schwimmen gehen!

Le ch?teau est impressionnant en approchant de l’extérieur mais une fois dedans on se rend vite compte qu’il était totalement abandonné depuis …de siècles. Première surprise les horaires d’ouverture de 9 à 15 heures en saison !!! Il faut mettre son réveil pour avoir une chance de visiter ce terrain vague où la visite devient un calvaire après 10 heures du matin en aout car il n’y a pas le moindre ombre ou un seul arbre dans cet immense espace. L’endroit est très dangereux pour les enfants qui doivent rester sous étroite surveillance car il y a de nombreux affaissements du terrain, de trous, de parties effondrées etc. Néanmoins il y a deux points qu’il faut voir : l’extrémité sud où il y a un donjon qui est actuellement en travaux de restauration et l’extrémité nord-ouest d’où on a un vu imprenable sur la mer ionienne et une partie du village. Astuce : il y a la possibilité de visiter le ch?teau en dehors des horaires d’ouverture. J’ai vu plusieurs visiteurs entrer dans l’après-midi par la grille dont les barres sont assez espacées pour se faufiler à travers si on n’est pas trop épais (il faut éviter de pique-niquer à l’intérieur pour pouvoir ressortir…)

Η καλ?τερη εποχ? να το περπατ?σετε ε?ναι η ?νοιξη γιατι πλημμυρ?ζει απο χρ?ματα και υπ?ροχα αγριολο?λουδα.

il castello occupa tutta l'area del promontorio e parte della costa , inglobando anche un piccolo isolotto fortificato. si accede da un ponte in pietra di 14 archi che scavalca il grande fossato all'interno vi è una grande acropoli fortificata con varie strutture militari . le grandi mura in parte distrutte durante la seconda guerra mondiale , alcune parti visibili sulla riva del mare , sono ora opera di consolidamento e ristrutturazione . Al castello vi si accede gratuitamente e nonostante il caldo la piacevole brezza invita alla scoperta.
