we visited the castle first at night, with new moon rising and a sky full of stars. it was amazing. wind was blowing strong and we spent time just sitting and watching. definitely one of the cameos that will remain in our hearts frmo the beautiful astypalea

This pristine island has a spiritual feel with lots of quaint little churches to discover in amongst houses and hidden in the hills. The castle stands high on the hill like a beacon and it is surrounded by white washed houses. It stands proud and is shrouded in history. It is an easy walk up the steps but don't rush it otherwise you won't enjoy the journey and discoveries you make along the way. The two main churches are housed near and on the castle, St Nicholas and Portaitisa the church all Astypaleans claim as their own. The castle shows it's battle scars but this is true history....I'm glad it has not been fully restored. The view from up there is majestic! The church of Portaitisa is from the Byzantine era and houses many beautiful icons and frescoes. Unfortunately, the church is not always open and you need to make an appointment to view because thieves have removed precious items and stolen from the church. Consider a donation and I am sure you will feel blessed. The island of Astypalea is a true gem. Although some tourist have discovered it, it is relatively unspoilt . As for the people they are amazing and embrace visitors. I doubt there is a nicer island in all of Greece. A call out to all photographers, no matter what shot you take it will still leave you breathless.

The inside is quite interesting but also scary as it is literally falling apart.... in large part due to the earthquake of 1956 but also because of inadequate funding for repairs. The outside is pretty spectacular at night. Worth the visit of the inside but it is is the outside that is the attraction.

Although it lies on top of the hill, it's very easy to reach. It is very well preserved and you can see houses still standing in it. It is very interesting.

Το κ?στρο τη? αστυπαλαια? ειναι κατι το μοναδικο.Στεκει στην κορυφη του λοφου τη? χωρα? και κατω του απλ?νονται τα δεδαλωδη στενα δρομ?κια! Το βραδυ η χωρα με το καστρο φωταγωγημενο στην κορυφη φανταζει οπτασ?α! Μεσα στο καστρο υπ?ρχουν δυο υπεροχε? εκκλησιε? τη? Παναγ?α? καθ του Αγ?ου Γεωργ?ου καθ?? επιση? και καποιε? αναπαλαιωμενε? παλαι?? κατοικ?ε?! Η θεα απο το καστρο και ειδικοτερα απο τον ν?τιο πυργο προ? την εκκλησια τη? Παναγ?α? τη? πορταιτισσα? και στο απεραντο γαλαζιο ειναι μαγευτικ?!!

Es una isla para relajarse, y aunque sus playas no son extraordinarias tiene un mar que te deja exahusto. La capital animada, con un bar de copas en la zona de los molinos, con vistas al castillo que está estupendamente, y con buena música y buenas copas. Hay buenos hoteles y restaurantes, y a pesar de ser tan diminuta la isla, tiene mucho que ver si se quiere caminar y ver playas y paisajes. Muchas de las playas tienen la típica combinación de taberna, hamaca y sombrilla. No olvide alquilar un todo terreno, los caminos de la isla están sin asfaltar en gran parte.

アテネから空路１時間、エーゲ海でいちばん美しいともいわれる、アスティパレア島の中心部に続く山頂にあるヴェネチアン城塞（1207年）。島内で唯一とも言える、観光地かもしれません。城壁内に教会が二つあり、周囲のエーゲ海が見渡せます。中心部から矢印に沿っていくと10分程度で辿りつけます。
