As I was visiting friends in the area we went to visit the small but nice "Musee de Sologne" and their special exhibition about the huge WWI US Army logistic base of Gievres. Do not miss it they have beautiful pictures and also videos showing the installations, equipment, the Doughboys themselves and also the French people they interacted with. Do not miss the second part of the exhibit in the small tower across the bridge. You have until November 16th 2014, after that date it should move to another local town.

I visited Romorantin on this trip because on a previous visit the Museum was closed. It is a fairly new buildin constructed out of mills that cross the river in an enviable setting. It draws on collections made by a number of antiqueries and folklorists who had studied the Sologne area, which is the area south of the great loop of the Loire through Blois and Orleans and north of the Cher. It has a certain amount of information about the Rennaisance period, including plans by Leonardo da inci for a royal palace in Romorantin and then in the second part of the 19th century whn there was another bout of chateau building, spurred by Napoeon III and the railway. Much of the material about life in this largely forested area comes from the latter period through to the 20th century. Presumably in the interim the inhabitants continued their subsistance agriculture and associated crafts. There is an interesting sectio on hunting which becme an important economic activity. While I was there, there was an exhibition on US troops based in the Sologne at the end of WWI (they might have been more useful further east).

C'¨¦tait un voyage dans le temps... La derni¨¨re fois que je suis venue l¨¤ c'¨¦tait il y a environ 30 ans. En effet, je venais voir mon arri¨¨re grand m¨¨re dans sa minoterie (Simon). Je m'essayais dans sa cuisine et je regardais passer les cygnes blancs sous sa fen¨ºtre... Je suis heureuse de voir que bien s?r ?a a chang¨¦, mais que ce lieu de mon enfance est devenue un lieu de m¨¦moire et que l'histoire a ¨¦t¨¦ pr¨¦serv¨¦e pour les g¨¦n¨¦rations future. Je reviendrais avec mes enfants.

Im Stadtzentrum von Romo befindet sich in einem alten M¨¹hlengeb?ude das sich ¨¹ber den Fluss spannt das regionale Museum de Sologne.Der moderne Glasbau gew?hrt dem Besucher in jeder der drei Etagen einen Ausblick links & rechts ¨¹ber dem Fluss. Zudem gibt es noch zwei Aussengeb?ude die ebenfalls zum Museum geh?ren und Exponate bzw. Ausstellungen enthalten.Im Hauptgeb?ude wird zun?chst die geografische Lage der Sologne erl?utert, im 2. Stock das Alltagsleben vom Mittelalter bis zur Moderne und im 3. Stock widmet sich das Museum der allgegenw?rtigen traditionellen Jagd.Im 1. Nebengeb?ude einem Turm des Schl?usensystems, erhalten Sie Auskunft ¨¹ber die traditionelle Webereien der Region.Das 2. Nebengeb?ude ist ebenfalls ein Turm, in welchem wechselnde Ausstellungen stattfinden. Noch bis 11. November 2014 befindet sich dort die Geschichte der Besatzung der amerikanischen Truppen im 1. Weltkrieg. F¨¹r diese Ausstellung empfehle ich Ihnen das Video im 3. Stock anzusehen, die Bildtafeln in den anderen Stockwerken, geben das Video in schriftlicher form wieder jedoch weniger bewegt als im Film.Das Hauptgeb?ude ist Rollstuhlgerecht eingerichtet mit einem Aufzug, die beiden Nebengeb?ude sind nicht erreichbar und auch eng bemessen mit Wendeltreppen.Wir haben einen wunderbaren Nachmittag im Museum verbracht zudem wurde uns eindrucksvoll von einer Angestellten die Jagt in der Sologne erkl?rt.Zu bem?ngeln gab es f¨¹r uns nur, die hohen Temperaturen von Stockwerk zu Stockwerk steigernd und die leider nicht sehr gut l?rm-abgeschirmten Bildschirmen. Soll heissen, die r?umlichkeiten in den Videofilme pr?sentiert werden sind nicht abgetrennt und andere vorbeilaufende Besucher ¨¹bert?nen den Filmton.Das Museum bietet aber den Anlass mit der gesamten Familie die Geschichte der Region kennen zu lernen.

On y apprend beaucoup de choses sur la r¨¦gion. C'est une bonne fa?on de d¨¦couvrir la Sologne. Lieu agr¨¦able, personnel sympa.Deux points pourraient ¨ºtre am¨¦lior¨¦s:- l'espace consacr¨¦ au projet de L¨¦onard de Vinci est trop restreint et pas assez d¨¦taill¨¦ (alors que c'est quand m¨ºme un point central de l'Histoire de Romorantin);- quand on a fait la visite guid¨¦e ¨¤ la maison des ¨¦tangs (St Vi?tre) on ne peut ¨ºtre que frustr¨¦ qu'ils ne proposent pas la m¨ºme chose ¨¤ Romorantin. Du coup la visite est moins vivante. Si vous ne pouvez faire les deux je vous conseille donc le mus¨¦e des ¨¦tangs.
