very interesting to visit this very old castle built in middle age, then rebuilt (extended) during different centuries and style. be aware that one visit is only for the ground floor certainly the most interesting and one for the upper floor, only few bedrooms to visit so before going there ask which time which visit. the guide are very good and will show you many details and share a lot of nice stories and history. a good place to visit

Free parking, 17 euros for family of four. We really felt we got our money's worth going through the rooms of this decorated chateau. Particularly the loft rooms were an experience. Well worth a look and lovely grounds and a moat with otters!

Access all areas! Possible to visit all rooms and even climb up into the rafters where the chateau military lodged. There are guided tours available but plenty of information if you want to wander around on your own. Very interesting, and a lovely town to boot.

We voted the Chateau de Sully-sur-Loire as having the best moat. One could easily see here how the medieval castles were fortresses set-up for defending territory. We climbed to the top tower area where soldiers would have kept watch for enemies and from where they would shoot arrows and drop stones on their foes. This is not a royal castle. It focusses on the castle as the home of the Duke and Duchess of Sully and the place where they reigned over their dukedom. Explanations were written on plaques in each room in both French and English.

The building and grounds are impressive. The people are all very nice. There wasn't a tour in English when I visited so I had to work off a paper tour created by the Dowager Duchess who, I gather, is a Scott. It was interesting... but didn't completely correspond to the rooms that we visited. The Chateau is particularly interesting as a view into a bygone era. You can only really visit a handful of rooms... and they give you an glimpse at a by-gone era. But as you walk around you get the feeling that there is a lot of work to do and no money to do it... cracking plaster, worn woodwork, paintings with holes in them...They are making an effort to sell products from the land and to make the Chateau more self-supporting ... but hard to see how it will succeed. An interesting and somewhat sad place to visit.

great location and lovely walks around the chateau and in to the small town. lots of renovation work has been carried out to ensure this stunning chateau is there for future generations to see

This is a handsome chateau which has been occupied recently enough to retain still a (slightly) home-like feeling. It is not as grand as many in the Loire valley, but has a bedroom in which Louis XIV slept. There are some lovely antiques inside, but their dates are all mixed up and the purist will not like some of the juxta-positions. The outside certainly rates a few pictures and some of the paintings on display, mainly family portraits are exceptionally good. There is plenty of free parking and the autoroute is only 15 minutes away.

There must be a better way to spend 15 Euro and an hour in the area. Perhaps a more engaging guide would have made the experience more meaningful, but frankly we found him rude. With all of the other options in the region I would opt for something else.

Stay in the town of Bayeux where you can walk to restaurants and tours. This place is nice, but out of town. It is fine if you have a car. Food is really average. Not worth the price they charge for the dinner, or the room.

Took my children (4 and 6) to Chateau de Sully. They have a 'Princess in the castle' animation. It takes about 1h and very well done, terminated with some cake and juice in the garden. Price is 6.70€/person. Very nice way to explain the history of the castle to children. The visit was done in french. The shop of the castle is offering games/princess dresses (too expensive!) and pirates T-shirts, lots of game, local food specialities, wine testing and vegetables from the garden of the castle. A very good break for the children.Nice place to do a picnic.Remark : I thought that some princess/pirate costumes for the children would be included in the animation but I was wrong. Either you take your own costume from home or you buy at the shop (dress was between 70 €.....far too expensive). I had not taken any princess dress for my daughter so she was very sad when she saw other children with some very nice dresses. Think about it before booking this visit in order to avoid tears! This is the only negative point I found in this children animation.
