The square was filled with seating for the Nice Carnival when I was there but that did not take anything away from how lovely it was. The Gardens adorn the views east to west and go north for the shopping.

Place Massena is a great open area that seems to converge with Old Town and modern Nice. There are parks and fountains, shops, and lots of choices for eating out. We visited during Carnival and they had the stands and Ferris Wheel set up. It was amazing to watch all the floats as they filled the square. We stayed a month in Nice and passed through the square on a number of day trips throughout Nice.

Whether there's a carnival on or just a standard day this place is always busy.I buy my nespresso coffee from here and always find the time to water around.Beautiful fountains, statues and architecture.Very pretty.

It is a very attractive place(square). You can join the "Vieux Nice" or go towards the avenue "Jean M¨¦decin".There are modern sculptures on the place which are very attractive in the evening because they are enlightened.

I cannot say anything special about Place Massena. It was crowded due to the carnival. The tram runs there and several buses.

Grand square, gardens with fountains, beautiful shrubs, play area for children. Nothing to dislike, central for designer shops, and promenade des Anglais. You could spend a great deal of time in and around the area

Very impressive entrance (at the rear if approached from sea front) - ticket office by the 'back' gate. If you intend to visit several galleries, don't buy the individual ticket at €10 but the €20 one which gives entry to several in 7 days. Large rooms with interesting pictures. Nice garden on the sea side.

I love to be here at night to watch the statues of the men sitting on poles as they change colours. Beautiful pattens in the paving stones. A lovely square to walk through on the route between the old town and the carre d'or.

The place is awesome. Loads of nice joints to have a good meal and some nice drinks. Stays busy all throughout the night

The Carnival took place here while we were visiting, so lots of atmosphere. Without the Carnival it is worth a visit to see the statues on poles and the fountains lit up at night

We've been lucky enough to come in February this year and watch the Nice Carnival parades. But having also been here in 2011 we saw Place Messina without all the audience seating. It's a vibrant and interesting place with several restaurants, shops and adjoining parks.
