Several people told us the Bayeux tapestry was a "must see". I disagree. The sheer length of it was impressive, but I didn't think it was worth 9 euros. Maybe it was because we were excited about our DDay tour the next day (which was the main reason we were in Bayeux) and the tapestry had nothing to do with that, but all 4 in our group had the same reaction - disappointing.

After an overnight flight from the US and spending the morning after reaching Bayeux, we decided to go see the famous Tapestry. It was worth seeing. It tells the story of the Norman invasion of England. They give you an audio guide, which is most necessary to understand it all! Highly recommend!

I found this a little disappointing as i didn't know what to expect. The story of the tapestry was interesting but i'm not convinced it was worth 9 Euros each. It was one of those things you think you should see, but could have left out. Maybe it was not my sort of thing but my wife felt the same.

If you've never been to see this, go now. It is the most incredible "slice" of history portrayed in a way that makes it interesting whether you are 8 or 80. The quality of this (nearly) 1000 year old tapestry is stunning and tells a slightly different story about William and Harold than I was taught at school. The personalised audio commentary explains each of the scenes (albeit a little fast at the beginning) and points out particularly interesting or delicate parts of the embroidery. For an entrance fee of 9€ it is very reasonable particularly as, if it is not busy, you can retrace your steps and listen to the recording a second time, pausing when you want. Excellent 2 hours!!!

I am a HUGE history buff so when I planned my trip to Bayeux and heard bits and pieces about this tapestry, I knew I would have to add it to the itinerary. Life got in the way and I didn't take much time to research it before arriving, however the museum is so well done and the audio-guide alone told me everything I needed to know about the tapestry as I viewed it. This is an incredibly cool artifact and a sight that I am so happy I was able to see. The audio-guide contained so much information and went at a pretty fast pace so I had to return to the beginning and do it a second time. This was our last stop at the end of the day so we breezed pretty quickly through the rest of the museum, but there was a lot of additional information to view, besides the tapestry.

An incredible piece of work and well worth seeing and listening to the story of. The audio tour is too fast, though. Get ready to use the pause button all the time because the information is great, but the pace is too fast. Don't come in any less than 45 minutes before the lunch or end-of-day closing time, because they'll kick you out.

We actually had quite low expectations in terms of what to expect - after all, how interesting can a tapestry be? However, it was fascinating and complimented by an excellent museum.

We were a couple of blokes on a trip to see the WW2 landing sites but our hotel was only a few minutes from the tapestry museum so thought, why not.The entrance fee was €9 and was well worth it. I had learned about the tapestry when at Junior school many years ago now but to see it in real real was brilliant. You are given what looks like a mobile phone which gives you a description in English of every section of the tapestry which really brings the history to life. Once you have seen the tapestry there are other sections of the museum which give more insight on the story and how the tapestry was made and its own history.
