We had a few hours in between busses and went for a walk to see the statue. It was nice, but not anything to go out of your way to see. It's close to the ruins in Sparta,so was a nice stop on our walk.

Big, spectacular statue of the great person from mythology. We spent one day vacation and drove 150 km one way to meet this legend.

This is a monumental statue to King Leonidas bearing helmet, sword and shield with Gorgon head on, with inscription ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ. Gorgon head refers to the wife of Leonidas, her name was Gorgo. Statue is situated in front of city stadium, right below the ancient Acropolis and Theatre of Ancient Sparta, it dates from 1968. On the place of his death during the Battle of Thermopylae, stands another monument from 1955 to King Leonidas, bearing helmet, spear and shield with an Gorgon head on. A sign under the statue reads also ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ" ("Come and get it")
