Beautifully cared for, well bred, well schooled, well mannered Haflinger ponies, breath taking mountain trails, totally safe and good company - a refreshing and delightful experience. These are ponies who are part of a family and are proud about the work they do. It's a relaxing experience which all the family can enjoy at whatever level. I am an experienced, advanced rider and I was happy with these ponies and with the care and management. I have taken my godchildren and my friends and it has always been rewarding. The restaurant Kalithea on the way there is a good place to eat. I recommend this stables from a welfare and horse care perspective. I hope you go and I hope you enjoy it.

This place is EPIC!! As a pony lover I beg my parents to take me to a stable and as we drove past a sign saying that there is a stable nearby I jumped at the chance of going! So when we arrived we had to do the usual sign a few documents and things. Then Connie asked me if I wanted to help catch the ponies and tack up! Of course the answer was YES PLEASE!!!!!!!!! So after I had the time of my life tacking up, grooming and saying hi (to the ponies) I realised Connie was talking to my mum and dad. When they had finished the conversation I we to ask them what that was about and they told me they would be riding too! Soon we all began to mount I was riding a beautiful halflinger called Zora, mum was riding Lunar and dad was riding Johnny be good tonight and he said it himself that he was very happy to see a horse big enough for him. On the ride we saw some beautiful views and dad even managed to take photographs.A few days later we went back and that time only I rode. this time I was riding the magnificent Fedra. When I arrived back at the stables I thanked Connie and went over to my parents who were admiring a very nice bag Connie saw us admiring it and decided to give it to me! So about a year later I returned to the stables but not just for riding. I got up at 6:00am and arrived at the stables by 7:00am and by 7:30 we were in the saddle and away! By 10:00 we arrived at the beach I was soooo excited! Connie stopped and told us not to go too deep and finally we all took "the plunge!" As I was riding the cheeky Fedra she began splashing me and making waves! I had so much fun and I hope if you decided to go you have as much fun as me! ?????? Jess aged 10

We did a 2 hour ride up to a spot in the mountains of Kefallonia overlooking the ocean. Yes, Connie is assertive, but you can't take it personally. She just cares immensely for her horses. You are paired with a horse that is geared towards your experience level. We had a great time and would go back.

Thoroughly enjoyable evening ride. Well organised and professionally run. We had 3 hour ride up the mountain on rocky track and horses were steady and sure footed.

I would like to reply to Veiga2001's adverse comments on the Sea Ride that he/she obviously did not enjoy. The Haflinger is a breed from the Austrian-Bavarian border and used to carrying burdens of up 160 KG in very high altitudes. Connie limits the weight that her horses carry to 110 Kg. 15 Stones as mentioned by this rider converts to 95 Kg.There are 12 horses in the stable, 5 for experienced riders and 7 geared towards the novice rider. All of these horses are well trained by Connie herself and if an experienced rider should be allocated a novice horse they should be more than able to experience a very good ride. It would be looking for trouble to over mount clients. Some riders claim to be experienced and even while at the mounting stage one can see they have hardly ridden at all. When swimming in the sea all riders will swim alone, the reason being that Connie needs her full attention on the horse and rider in the sea and be able to correct instantly any problem that could spell disaster. It is therefore not unusual for two clients to share a horse for the swim. When fully swimming a horse uses a tremendous amount of power, when wet a horse is very slippery and remember swimming is done bareback. A novice rider would therefore be in a lot of danger if they should fall off the horse and be hit on the head or any other part of the body by a heavy horse or a metal shod hoof.Full praise to Connie for taking care of her clients and horses. Hope she never changes.

I was nervous to go riding after breaking my hip at the end of last year. However, what wonderful, sure-footed horses these were! Four of us took a 1.5 hour trek up the mountain and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were patient and were quite happy to lead so that everyone enjoyed themselves. Great stable, the horses are very well looked after and I would definately recommend this to anyone who'd like to see parts of the island not possible in the car.
  • veiga2001
Dear veiga2001,We are sorry to read that you didn¡¯t have the experience you were hoping for. We would like to respond to a few points you made to clarify how we run things here. The halflinger breed is a very sturdy breed and is meant to carry heavy loads. We recently had a veterinarian who works specifically with this breed, come for a week experience with us and let us know that many of them can easily carry weights of 150 kilos. This being said our limit is 110 kg so as not to over burden the horses. As for swimming with the horses we are very strict on safety with this experience because these horses are highly trained and therefore have lots of energy. These horses get excited when they go swimming and since we do go swimming bareback it is much more difficult to ride an excitable horse therefore we only allow very experienced riders fully go swimming to ensure the safety of everyone. We charge 80 euros for this ride as it is 4 hours. It is stated in the program that we do many things in this 4 hours and not just spend time at the beach. On top of the actual ride we need to spend a lot more time after the ride to clean as things get wet in the salt water and need more aftercare to keep the equipment in as good condition as possible. With rising costs of pretty much everything you need to buy and difficulties of having a stables on an island we have kept our prices the same for the last 10 years to keep is as affordable as possible on both sides. We do apologize for the helmets being wet. The weather in the fall is a little unpredictable and in the scramble to get everything inside some of the helmets were overlooked. Most of the helmets are in a bin with a lid and were kept dry but a few did get wet and again we apologize and it will not happen again.

Tired of beaches? Not interested in monasteries, cemeteries or city centres, souvenir shops, tourist traps etc. like us? This place was a great refreshement of our vacation routine. Even though we never rode a horse before, the staff made it easy and understandable and we enjoyed our 2 hour evening ride also thanks to our guide, miss Victoria, who was a great chat buddy. The horses and facilities are in great condition, it's obvious everything is cared of with love and attention. It's 20 euros per person per hour, you can however negotiate your own terms according to your needs and experience with horse riding. It's best to call ahead.

Connie and her beautiful horses are the highlight of my son's holiday. They are in excellent condition and look wonderful. His trip of four hours took them through the hills to the sea and he cant wait to return. Yammas and Tschus xx
  • AndreaPutland
As myself & my family are novice riders, we decided on a hour and a half trek into the mountains. The staff at the stables were very helpful as we set off on our ride, and the owner, who led the ride was really nice to chat to about the local area as we trekked along. The horses are very sure footed, and I felt safe at all times. Breathtaking views over Sami when you reach the turning point, with lots of interesting information and sights along the way. I wish we had booked a longer trek and would do so next time. Experienced riders might find this trek a bit "safe" but it's just so relaxing-felt safer doing on a horse than I did in a car! A must do activity if you are near the area. Having said that, we stayed in Spartia and it was worth the hour drive.
