This city has much to be proud of. They have maintained their old city and it is a wonderful place to explore and stroll through. We were surprised how much we enjoyed Salerno!

Walking along its narrow streets and alleys take you back to the past. Then you find hidden in them architectural gems, beautiful churches, high end stores and nice restaurants.

Now all refurbished, but still maintaining the old characteristics of the city. Some features have had to be sacrificed but overall still well worth a wander through.The Christmas lights are on until 20 January and make an evening visit even more worth while.

Atmosphere nice, lot of people on the streets and nice lights . Some nice restaurants . The boardwalk is nice . Not an easy parking around.

Lovely scenery and clear warm unspoilt beaches. Lots of interesting town's and quaint villages lovely fresh locally produced food.

As for me, I consider Salerno historical center one of the best places on the whole Amalfi coast. There are some small and narrow streets to get lost in, there are a lot of small local shops with interesting and attractive staff and as a pearl there is Salerno Duomo which I consider to be one of the most attractive cathedrals in the whole Italy.

Take a walk round the narrow streets, shops and bars etc. Salerno itself is an ideal base to get the boat to the rest of the Amalfi coast or take the bus or train to other destinations, the stations are next to each other.

Salerno is just a beautiful city!I am the daughter of immigrants, and only now, for my first time, I visited the city of my grandparents, it was exciting!The city is modern and ancient at the same time, full of shops and great restaurants everywhere!

Old town full of character. New town good shops. Good restaurant close to the cathedral in an old alley way. Can't remember the name but very popular.

Winding narrow cobblestoned streets that brings Salerno alive. Very little touristy shops - plenty of small grocery shops selling produce, a nice ceramic shop and filled with friendly people that say hi to you as you walk by. This place makes a nice escape from the tourist hole that is the Amalfi Coast and is a refreshing breeze of fresh air from Naples.

Great ambiance and shops. Lots of places to eat. Good prices. Beautiful and well maintained area. Very nice attendants.

This is a very Italian city. A good choice for touring the area. It is on the main train line and has good bus and ferry services.

We loved wandering around the Centro Storico, peering down alleyways and into interesting nooks. This feels like an authentic old quarter and not a tourist trap done up to lure people in. There are no souvenir shops, just the kind of stores that local people use. It seemed to us that you couldn't go wrong walking into almost any of the charming restaurants. I can only hope that the increasing number of tourists in Salerno won't spoil the Centro Storico the way Amalfi seems to have been spoiled.

When in Salerno make sure to set aside some time to wander around the old city. The cobblestones and narrow streets hold countless interesting shops,bars and restaurants from hi end to low end. Stroll the small alleys and discover even more interesting shops. A great way to spend a late afternoon

I liked the old historic centre of Salerno very much. There are narrow, tidy and cosy streets reminding me of old good Italian films with Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroiani. It is like going back to the past, about 50 years ago, when life was still calm and people have time enough for chatting to each other personally.
