During a trip through the Ring of Kerry we visited the Gap of Dunloe. Yes, a long drive, but the sight-seeing is beyond breathtaking. Something you never see in the US. We enjoyed making a day of the Ring. Pack a lunch (or stop somewhere local along the way), dress comfortably, make sure you have plenty of disk space for pictures, and plan on making numerous stops. You don't have to stop, but how can you not!! We enjoyed every minute of it. Even our 3 yr old had fun on the adventure!

We had just started the Ring of Kerry when we saw the sign for the Gap of Dunloe. We thought it would only take a few minutes, but it ended up being 1.5-2 hours to explore the crazy tight roads but it was all worth it. Even in the rain and fog, the area is beautiful and inspiring. And yes there are sheep everywhere. We ended up missing the Ring of Kerry because it took so much time to find the Gap but we don't regret the crazy adventure!

We drove the Gap of Dunloe during our 8 day holiday in Ireland. Because it was the off season we were able to drive through and there was almost no one else along the road. It was incredible views and driving the road was like a roller coaster in itself. Seeing the sheep on the sides of the roads was so cool. We drove through the Black Valley and the farmers in the area were burning the briars so the sheep didn't hurt their feet. There was no warning and it was very close to the road. It was quite dangerous but we didn't mind because it was a great story to tell!

Its a great drive throiugh the gap as the road winds in amongst the mountains, (they may not be tall relative to say the Himalyas, but they are sure mountains when your in them!) and many lakes. The drive is worth it, biking or wlaking even would be better. Do be careful, as the road past Kate Kearny's cottage is narrow, sometimes VERY narrow. Also, on the weekends after 12:30, the kitchen at Kate Kearnys cottage is open and is a good place to have a good meal.

If you have a gap in your life, check this out. As gaps go,this is big. Mountains, sheep, bridges, lakes and a pub! Your gap is lame.

The way to do the Ring of Kerry is amazing, this part is very beautiful. If you visit Killarney you MUST visit this place,

This is a must see. However, it is best to rent a car and drive through yourself during the off season. You may get a little lost, but that's the fun of it :). During the busy season you should take the horse and buggies because of the narrow roads. I don't think any bus tours travel through here.

Incredible place, take the time and visit the Gap but use the Jaunting car. As with everything to experience in Ireland, give yourself enough time to appreciate the journey

A must see if visiting Killarney. Fabulous walks for all levels. Great food in Kate Kearneys Cottage. Great value.

The Gap of Dunloe is an experience that well worth the trip. You can drive (but it can be hazardous, you don't want any scraps on hired cars) or take the Jaunting cars (house drawn open carriage) through the Gap a nice slow ride taking in the scenery which is breath taking.
