It is a lovely, young, fashionable and upbeat downtown area that sits on the river. It has many great shops and restaurants to choose from. Love the downtown Umea.

The Bildmuseet is on the banks of the Umea river. A fantastic building, full of light and 5 floors of exhibits, plus ground floor with cafe.The exhibits change from time to time so it is advisable to check on the website for the schedule. I saw a mesmerizing exhibit by a Mexican artist using interactive light and sound displays. Just a privilege to see.The staff are extremely kind (as I have witnessed across northern Sweden) and entrance is free. The views across the river are also breathtaking.

Interesting exhibitions and the space itself is fantastic. The museum is located right by the river and admittance is free of charge. The staff is very friendly and there is a nice selection of books and gifts available in the museum.The restaurant on the ground floor offers lunch as well as "fika" (student discount available) and there is terrace with a great view of the river.

The museum does not have a permanent collection, but instead offers a changing calendar of exhibitions featuring a wide array of contemporary art. Located right in the heart of the university's Arts Campus, the museum is an amazing resource and a beautiful multi-purpose space, with stunning views of the river.

I loved that this place is for free and still offers a lot! The view from the upper floors is amazing too. And if there is nice weather you can enjoy a meal or ice-cream from the cafeteria outside :)

This museum of modern art is located in a beautiful spot on the riverside. There were interesting exhibitions when I visited in June. The modern building has loads of wonderful space and a good restaurant on the ground floor. On a sunny day you can enjoy a coffee outside as well.
