Located in the "Column Park" on the main road when entering Tg Jiu from the east side, the Endless Column ("Coloana Infinitului") is a must see in Tg Jiu, together with "Poarta Sarutului" and "Masa Tacerii". Altogether, they represent the most important legacy Brancusi left (and accepted by) to Romania, his country.It is really difficult to rank these masterpieces...

Impressive column is impressive and you can't deny that this Brancusi man actually had talent! And what a skill. This sculpture fits perfectly in the park where it's currently situated and makes Targu Jiu a place of interest. Really beautiful.

The Endless Column (often it is called the Column of Infinite) symbolizes the "Infinite Sacrifice" of the Romanian soldiers and it is considered by Sydnei Geist the top point of the modern Art. The Endless Column stacks 17 rhomboidal modules, with a half-unit at the top. The incomplete top unit is thought to be the element that expresses the concept of the infinite. Brancu?i had experimented with this form as early as 1918, with an oak version.The Column of the infinite sacrifice given by the Romanian heroes for the Unity of the Nation. The number of component modules represents the year on which Romania came into the First World War and the ending half module represents the half part of the respective year.
