For me, this was the most moving memorial this visit. While explaining the significance to my kids we came upon an older gentleman who served in the war that was visiting the memorial for the first time. Seeing his reaction to the memorial put it all into perspective for my children and my husband and I. Very beautifully done.

The WW2 memorial didn't open till only a few years ago and why it took so long to show respect to those who served not sure. If you are walking from the Washington monument down to see the Lincoln this will be your first stop and worth the time. Spend at least 30-60 minutes walking around the water, state names, etc. This was one of the greatest generations that gave their lives to allow us to live everyday free, they deserve your respect.

While not as moving as the Vietnam Memorial (what is?) or the Korean War Memorial, the WWII Memorial is certainly worth the time to experience as one takes in the Mall.

this is on the mall and it is very well done, it represents all of the fronts and list all of the soldiers by state; it is a nice tribute to the veterans of WWII.

The memorial is a remarkable mark of respect. It also bought sadness to see families grieve there. I liked the peaceful atmosphere and the fact that the names of individuals are displayed.

This is the 3rd time I've been to this memorial and it still misses the mark for me and my father was a WWII veteran. It just isn't pulled together as a memorial. Each state has a vertical granite "stand" and there are two towers that are labeled "Atlantic" and "Pacific". That's it. Even the wall honoring the Gold Star Mothers (those that lost their sons in the war) isn't connected. This is a poor memorial to what is called "the greatest generation". Skip it. There are ways to remember this people living and dead without this memorial.

My Stepfather dreamed of seeing this monument. The veterans administration has programs for the veterans but they cannot transport my mother with him. Ed Perlmutter's office helped me plan his special visit. Their office had limitations but provided me with information I could use. This special place was a memory that our family will never forget. A National Parks ranger, Creama Krop, came up to him and asked him to tell some stories of WWII. After listening she announced to the crowd, We have a WWII veteran in our presence, let's honor him and thank him as the crowd clapped she gave a special salute. Tears in our families eyes and memories.

Beautiful memorial with beautiful fountains. Centrally located among the other memorials. Especially beautiful at sunset.

Atlantic to pacific and all the states in between depicted in stone. You can find your ancestor if they were registered as being in ww2.Rangers there to help.
